Dear friends, The Conservative Party of Canada has sent to me this message: "Friend, Did you know that under the Indian Act, First Nations governments were the only ones in Canada not required to provide basic financial information to the public? That's why we brought in the First Nations Financial Transparency Act. Chiefs and band councils must now share basic financial information with their membership and Canadian taxpayers. Like other Canadians, First Nations will finally have a say in how their money is spent. But the NDP and Liberals actually oppose this. Justin Trudeau even said he would repeal this bill – denying First Nations this basic right. And his comments confirm that he would side with those First Nation chiefs who would not provide their communities with access to open and transparent financial records. If we don't win in 2015, they'll take us back to the days where government was done behind closed doors. All Canadians have the right to expect transparency and accountability from their governments.
