The CPC: Canada’s principled stance on Ukraine

Dear friends,

Read this message that the Conservative Party of Canada has sent to me:

"Friend,

Just as we always try do the right thing for Canadians, we have a duty to help our neighbours and allies around the world.

Since the conflict in Ukraine began, our Conservative government has taken a firm, unequivocal response to Putin’s aggression.

We isolated Russia at the G-7, imposed a broad range of sanctions against those responsible for the crisis, and are helping to train the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine has asked us for military equipment that will help secure and protect its eastern border - and we are delivering. Yesterday, Prime Minister Harper announced that a CC-130J Hercules will be departing for Ukraine in the first of a series of flights to deliver equipment to help protect those on the front lines against dangerous insurgency.

This strong, clear and principled approach to international affairs stands in stark contrast to the opposition’s preferred approach of so-called “soft power”.

Left to themselves, the NDP and Liberals would again strip down our military and make Canada’s role in the world about nothing more than pleasing foreign governments. They talk in code about it: Canada must be “an honest broker”; or that we must have “balanced” foreign policy.

They actually believe that we should be, essentially, neutral in international affairs.

But here's the truth -- when we stand up for the brave people of Ukraine against Putin’s thugs and military aggression, or when we stand by Israel against anti-Semitic terrorists and extremists, that is Canada at our very best.

As proud as we are of Prime Minister Harper's strong leadership, we should be equally worried about what Justin Trudeau would do as Prime Minister.

When asked what government he most admires, he actually replied that he admired China’s “basic dictatorship”.

Canada needs strong leadership on the world stage – it needs Stephen Harper. Chip in $25 and stand up for strong leadership.
