The function of the Parliament

Dear friends,

the friend Aurelio Giorgianni (thanks) I brought this article to the attention of the Facebook page " Amanti della Storia ":

" January 20, 1265. The English Parliament holds first session in the Palace of Westminster. The Palace of Westminster will be by then known as the House of Parliament. It is located on the north bank of the Thames, in the City of Westminster, close to other government buildings of Whitehall . The oldest part of the building, still in existence, Westminster Hall, dates back to 1097. Originally the building was aimed at the royal residence, but since 1529, when it was destroyed by fire, no monarch has more than lived there, from Henry VIII, who bought the Palace of York by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey in the following year, which became his main residence. Most of the present structure dates back to the nineteenth century, when the palace was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style after being almost completely destroyed by another fire in 1834. The architects responsible for the project were Sir Charles Barry and Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. One of the most famous building is the St. Stephen's Tower, the clock tower that houses the famous Big Ben. The building includes more than a thousand rooms, including the House of Lords and the House of Commons, and is the site of important state ceremonies, among which is the opening of Parliament, which is usually held in November or December to presence of the queen. The palace is often used as a symbol of the two Chambers: very often, the term is used synonymously with Westminster Parliament ".

For English institutions this is an important day.
After this historical overview, I make a brief statement.
The Parliament is the home of a people.
Like the ancient English Parliament gathered nobles, clergy and members of the bourgeoisie, so the current Parliaments gather representatives of companies today who try to bring their own interests to the attention of the government, which transforms them into acts in the service of the people .
This function is the function of Parliament.
A Parliament that is not able to legislate is a serious threat to the institutions, which (in this situation) are exposed to possible coups of the other branches of government (such as the judiciary), or the "great powers" of the economy .
Kind regards.
