Australia, the speech of PM Tony Abbott

this is the speech of the australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott to Security Council of UN:




"Dear Antonio Gabriele,

This week I was in New York to attend a meeting of the United Nations Security Council convened by President Obama to address the issue of foreign fighters.

Combating the threat of foreign fighters is an urgent, vital national security issue.

Already at least 60 Australians have joined ISIL and other terrorist groups to fight in Iraq and Syria.

I want to re-assure you that the government is vigilant: vigilant at home and vigilant abroad, because the safety of our community is our highest priority.

While in New York, I also represented Australia at the United Nations General Assembly and spoke about what Australia is doing to boost security and economic growth.

As this year's chair of the G20, Australia is determined to promote private-sector-led growth: because this is the best way to generate jobs and improve everyone's quality of life.

Rather than preaching, Australia is trying to lead by example.

We have abolished the carbon tax, abolished the mining tax, provided environmental approvals for $800 billion worth of new projects and begun the task of eliminating the Budget deficit within four years.
