My friend and collaborator Stephanie Caracciolo brought me to the attention an article in the "Mercopress" newspaper which is titled " Floods in Uruguay have 10,000 people displaced and losses are estimated at a billion dollars ."
I too would like to thank Stephanie, to which I have a sign of my solidarity with a postcard sent from here, from Roncoferraro.
Obviously, my solidarity is extended to all those affected by this tragedy, in particular Italians.
As you know, in Uruguay, there was a violent wave of bad weather that has made a mess.
Stephanie (who is also a Red Cross volunteer and who is on the premises) brought me various details of this tragedy.
There have been tornadoes and storms.
There were deaths and there were damages amounting to about a billion dollars.
Now, I think it's shocking that here in Italy do not say anything.
I remember that in Uruguay there are so many Italians.
Stephanie is among them.
Yet, here we do not say anything. Everything's quiet!
While here we have some people we care so much for illegal immigrants, people who come here without a right, while mourning for the dead immigrants at sea, the tragedy of the Italians (and not just the Italians) in Uruguay goes unnoticed.
I am very disappointed and even angry.
I remember that Italians in Uruguay gave a hand when there was the earthquake in Italy in 2009.
Would it be fair to reciprocate.
