L'edizione americana di Masterchef è condotta da Graham Elliott e Gordon Ramsay.
Fino alla VI stagione vi era anche Joe Bastianich, che lavora anche nell'edizione italiana del talent show culinario.
Nella VII stagione, che è in corso, Bastianich è stato sostituito da Christina Tosi.
Gandolfo aveva partecipato alla I stagione, quella vinta da Whitney Miller.
Egli era un operaio edile.
Di origini italiane e residente a Santa Cruz, in California, Gandolfo ha più volte tentato di portare a Masterchef una cucina legata alla sue origini.
Se durante il pressure test avesse saltato la pasta con il sugo alla marinara prima di metterla nel piatto, Jake non sarebbe stato eliminato al nono episodio.
Comunque, Gandolfo ha portato avanti il suo sogno.
Questo è riuscire ad avverare i propri sogni.
