"BLOOD, TOIL, TEARS, SWEAT and the ULTIMATE SACRFICE
Although our nation is relatively young, Canada has a long history of combating evil-doers where ever they threaten us, our friends and our allies.
Our gratitude on this day, as it was yesterday and as it will be tomorrow, will always be for our splendid Canadian Armed Forces men and women who with all their hearts defended Canada’s rights as a nation in the highest standards of our forefathers.
We may allow ourselves this day of rejoicing and giving thanks; but let us not forget for a moment the toil and efforts that lie ahead. That the treachery and greed that has threatened us in the past could be inflicted upon us at any time again in the future and thereby threaten everything that our forefathers fought for.
The injuries and pain that we have suffered as a nation for losing 158 Canadian soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice requires our maximum admiration and gratitude as a united country.
In memory of the 162 Canadians who gave their lives in Afghanistan during the past dozen years - 158 soldiers, one diplomat, one journalist and two civilian contractors we must honour their remarkable sacrifice.
We need to be grateful to the hundreds more who were injured physically and psychologically, who returned needing rehabilitation and reconstruction, and support with rebuilding their lives.
Are our Canadian veterans receiving what they need? Are our Canadian veterans receiving what they deserve? They deserve more than words of admiration and appreciation.
We as Canadians must not only on this day but on everyday devote all our strength and resources in talking pride in the fact that our great nation was built with the blood, toil, tears and sweat of men and women who served both at home and abroad.
We must all take pride in the vision of Canada and recognize the fact that our unity, resolution and achievement as a nation did not come free 70 years ago and it does not come easy today.
Thank you to the 40,000 Canadians who contributed to making this world a better place. Simple words are not enough to express our extreme gratitude as a nation.
Advance, Canadiana! Long live the cause of freedom! Long Live Canada!
Let us go forward together united as the great nation the world looks at us to be and build this country stronger than ever.

Cordiali saluti.
